Corporate Officers

Marc Grandisson is the Chairman and CEO of Arch Worldwide Reinsurance Group. Joined Arch Reinsurance in October 2001 as part of the new underwriting initiative of Arch Capital.

Marc began his career in 1990 as an actuarial assistant with Tillinghast/Towers Perrin, first in Bermuda, subsequently transferring two years later to their Atlanta, GA office. In July 1994, he took up the position of Vice President at F&G Re, Inc. where he was responsible for non-traditional underwriting. He joined the Berkshire Hathaway Group in March 1999 where he served as a Vice President & Actuary until joining Arch Re in October 2001. Marc held the position of Chief Underwriting Officer and Actuary at Arch Re until his promotion to President and Chief Operating Officer in April 2004. Effective March 2005, and in keeping with the corporate structure at Arch, Mr. Grandisson's title changed to President & CEO. Marc was promoted to his current position in November 2005.

Mr. Grandisson holds a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science from the University Laval in Canada and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Since 1993, he has been a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and in 1995 became a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.


W. Preston Hutchings is President of Arch Investment Management Ltd. and Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of ACGL. Prior to joining ACGL, Mr. Hutchings was Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. Previously, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Mid Ocean Reinsurance Company Ltd. until its acquisition by XL Capital in 1998. Mr. Hutchings began his career as a fixed income trader at J.P. Morgan & Co., working for the firm in New York, London and Tokyo. He graduated in 1978 with a B.A. from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and received in 1981 an M.A. in Jurisprudence from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.


Constantine Iordanou has been chairman of the board of ACGL since November 6, 2009 and president and chief executive officer of ACGL since August 2003. He has been a director since January 1, 2002. From January 2002 to July 2003, Mr. Iordanou was chief executive officer of Arch Capital Group (U.S.) Inc. From March 1992 through December 2001, Mr. Iordanou served in various capacities for Zurich Financial Services and its affiliates, including as senior executive vice president of group operations and business development of Zurich Financial Services, president of Zurich American Specialties Division, chief operating officer and chief executive officer of Zurich American and chief executive officer of Zurich North America. Prior to joining Zurich, he served as president of the commercial casualty division of the Berkshire Hathaway Group and served as senior vice president with the American Home Insurance Company, a member of the American International Group. He holds an aerospace engineering degree from New York University.


Mark D. Lyons commenced his role as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of ACGL on September 1, 2012. Prior to that time, he served as Chairman and CEO of Arch Worldwide Insurance Group. He joined Arch in 2002 and now has nearly 30 years of industry experience. He was most recently, President and Chief Operating Officer at Arch Insurance Group. Before Arch, Mr. Lyons spent eight years at Zurich U.S., encompassing various executive positions in specialties, actuarial, underwriting, corporate operations and information technology. During his five years at Berkshire Hathaway before Zurich, he served in various executive positions in the Commercial Casualty Division. Prior to Berkshire Hathaway, Mr. Lyons spent over three years at American International Group (AIG), working in both the Domestic Brokerage and AIU Actuarial Departments. His area of focus was the specialty lines of Excess and Umbrella and all Lexington Insurance Company divisions.

Mr. Lyons has a B.S. in mathematics from Elizabethtown College and is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and Associate and Casualty Actuarial Society. He has also completed the Executive Program at the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University.


David H. McElroy, who joined Arch Insurance in 2009, has served as Chairman and CEO of Arch Worldwide Insurance Group since September 1, 2012. Prior to that time, he served as president of the Financial and Professional Liability Products Group of Arch Insurance Group. Prior to joining Arch, Mr. McElroy was Senior Vice President at Hartford Financial Services Corporation. He was responsible for Hartford financial products and Hartford Bond. He joined Hartford in 2000 with the acquisition of Reliance D&O / E&O business. At that time, Mr. McElroy also had oversight of the Property and Risk Management divisions. He started his career at the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies where he rose to Northern Zone Manager, Executive Protection.

Mr. McElroy has a B.A. in Business Administration from Temple University


John D. Vollaro has been a senior advisor of ACGL since April 1, 2009 and has served as a director of ACGL since November 2009. From January 2002 to March 2009, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of ACGL and treasurer of ACGL since May 2002. Prior to joining us, Mr. Vollaro acted as an independent consultant in the insurance industry since March 2000. Prior to March 2000, Mr. Vollaro was president and chief operating officer of W.R. Berkley Corporation from January 1996 and a director from September 1995 until March 2000. Mr. Vollaro was chief executive officer of Signet Star Holdings, Inc., a joint venture between W.R. Berkley Corporation and General Re Corporation, from July 1993 to December 1995. Mr. Vollaro served as executive vice president of W.R. Berkley Corporation from 1991 until 1993, chief financial officer and treasurer of W.R. Berkley Corporation from 1983 to 1993 and senior vice president of W.R. Berkley Corporation from 1983 to 1991. He holds a B.S. degree from Long Island University.
